Hand stitching workshop with Janet Goddard (19th Jan)

In this workshop, which is suitable for beginners, Janet will explore some techniques for visible mending on denim so that clothing can be repaired and reused.

Janet will cover exterior and interior patches, improvisational darning and hand stitching with pizazz! Repairs and patches take on a new meaning and become a feature on clothing. You will be provided with denim and fabric scraps to practice the various techniques but please bring scissors, embroidery thread, needle, pins, a ruler and marking pencil with you.

There will be a suggested voluntary contribution of £10 for this workshop with proceeds going to Isabel Hospice. Refreshments provided

Visible mending on knitwear with the B. Green Team (26th Jan)

Bring along any loved knitted garment with a hole or snag  (scarf, hat or jumper etc) and learn to repair & revive using basic darning techniques and simple embroidery to cover the damage. These visible mending techniques are designed to be seen and celebrated because ‘repairing is caring’

This is a hand sewing workshop, some threads and yarns will be available to use but please bring along a selection of colours that suit your project, along with needles for Sewing & Darning and darning mushroom or embroidery hoop if you have one (we will have some available on the night)

Cost £5 - includes a hot drink

Community Mending Project

A big thank you from us to the very talented Janet for getting involved with this mending project. Read on to find out more and we really hope to see you on the 19th and or 26th!

‘My name is Janet Goddard and I am a teacher of patchwork and quilting, author of four craft books and a designer. I write sewing patterns and design projects for magazines and fabric companies.

I am interested in sewing sustainably and have recently been teaching workshops on mindful mending – creative slow stitching on denim. If clothes can be mended and given a new lease of life in a creative way it extends their life and keeps them out of landfill.

I am looking forward to working with B Green on a visible mending project in the community.’
